Task Force 47 September 2018 Report

Right, that time again. The year is running away, blah blah blah. My holiday was very nice, thank you for asking. But that’s not why you’re here.

So, what’s new? Well, in Fleet Council, we’ve taken a vote. You might have noticed the consequences of that vote. Namely, each Task Group has dropped from six to five sims. Why are we dropping from six to five per Task Group, you may ask?

We’re in a unique kind of gaming here. Once upon a time, it attracted players far and wide. I remember first stumbling upon simming in July of 2008. I was fresh out of secondary school and fresh off of breaking up with my at the time girlfriend, and basically needed something to fill the time that came with that. But I’m rambling.

Now, while we still get new players in, we don’t get as many. What this means is, at least from my point of view, rather than spreading everyone wafer thin, we’re better off running a smaller number of games with a richer group of people. More people per game means more fun for everyone. That’s how I see it.

In 47 we’ve also dropped a sim from 47-I so as to bring numbers in line with those in 72-I. This, coupled with Sarek being made a speciality sim and moved to 47-I, means that Defiant is now the only Kelvin Timeline sim being operated within the fleet. So if you want to sim in that timeline, go say hi to Captain Reynolds.

Now that I’ve had my ramble, my reminisce and my explaining, let’s get to the breakdown of the Task Force:

Total Number of Ships: 19
Number of Ships with CO’s: 13
Number of Active Sims: 12
Number of Open Commands: 6

Our current Open Commands are:

Deep Space 7
USS Juno (Vesta Class)
USS Polaris (Galaxy Class)
USS Livingstone (Nebula Class)
USS Schrodinger (Merian Class)
USS Harbinger (Luna Class)

On top of this, I opened up the option for the CO’s of the Task Force to e-mail me with their list of open positions. They are as follows, exactly as they were sent to me:

USS Merlin (Excalibur Class):
Commander Air Group
Squadron / Wing CO

USS Pioneer (Intrepid Class):

Various Marine Positions
Enlisted Positions

While I did not have any other submissions, I will flag that Starbase 80 has recently opened so is worth checking out as well.

Now, awards. I’d like to come in here and say I’ve got a million to give.

I don’t. For the first time in several months, I have no award nominations. However, given we are coming off of the Summer drought, this isn’t exactly the most surprising thing in the world, and I would like to say all of what I have seen has been some damned good writing. However, the Unit of Merit award isn’t a participation trophy and I have no nomination this time around.

I’d also like to take a moment to say that earlier this month, on a nomination put in by a member of his crew, Captain Tyler Malbrooke of the USS Pioneer was awarded the Ribbon of Commitment. The nomination was as follows;

“Captain Tyler Malbrooke, is a constant professional. And always recruiting for him. And keeping in contact with his crew. His leadership and commitment, is the main reason his sim is striving. Captain Malbrooke is very active on his discord, and talking to his crew. Taking input, and incorporating ideas, as they fit. He is flexible and willing to assist anyone under his command.”

Well done Captain Malbrooke and well done to everyone in the Task Force for some good writing this month. I look forward to being able to award UoM’s again next month.

So, that’s about it. Sorry again for the tardiness of this report. I look forward to the coming month, and the upcoming Halloween, hopefully with some horror themed missions from some people. I love reading those. Happy Tuesday, enjoy your month.
