Task Force 72 | May 2022

April was a thrilling month for the Task Force, seeing the conclusion of a 3 year story arc for the Athena (with some guest appearances), the continued thriving of many different sims. The Mercutio is back in full force, and overall we are seeing numbers that are trending upwards.

Summer is approaching, which means that Obsidian Day is a month away, and that many of you will be taking vacations with little ones. For those of you that will spend June traveling, travel safe, mark your LOAs, and don’t forget to send all travel expenses to Hawkins, who will be donating them from his pay this month. How nice!

I’ll keep this month’s notice short, and let the rest of the report do the talking.

Unit of Merit

As many of you know, there was a restructure of the Obsidian Fleet ships and their positions recently, with Independent Fleet Operations being merged into Task Force 72. This allowed a transparent oversight of those sims operating in that Task Force, and the ability to ensure everyone was being held accountable. This meant a closer eye held to those two sims in question. But with scrutiny comes recognition as well, and for that we have to recognize moments of greatness.

This month’s sim regularly posts high numbers, sitting comfortably near the top (and often competing for that spot.) But it isn’t just high posting counts that we can rely on this sim for, but for immersive and comprehensive storytelling that excels in showcasing a side of Star Trek we rarely explore – the civilian side. This, combined with nearly 169 posts this month (or roughly 28 per player), means that this month’s Unit of Merit must go to the Mary Rose and her crew.

It is hard to deny the quality of work that goes into crossing the 100 posts threshold, and harder still to deny the skill it takes to do that while not having cool new ships and shiny new toys every other week to rely on for moving the plot forward. So, please, put your hands together and give a round of applause to the Mary Rose, and when you see B around the Fleet, grab her a pint, she deserves it.

Conclusion

A heads up to all of you, I’ll be away June 27th to July 3rd as I bought a new place, and will be settling in. During that time Hawkins will be your point of contact, and if need be I am sure Sepandiyar, B, or Du Lac can step in and help as well if Hawkins goes power hungry and blows things up.

Again, if you are looking for a guest, or any help with your writing, please reach out to either Hawkins or myself and we’ll do our best to help. We’re all in this together, and we want to see all of you succeed. See you in June.

Should you have questions or concerns, you may reach me via email at [email protected], or should you need Captain Hawkins, he can be reached via [email protected]. Thank you all, and safe simming.
