Character Profile - Amaya Lance

Amaya Lance
Male

Place of Origin: Earth

Physical Description

While not particularly athletic, Amaya tries to ensure she keeps herself trim and neat most of the time. She isn’t particularly imposing physically, but retains a reasonable formality even in her casual dress.

Personality Profile

Amaya quite often shifts between personas, sometimes poised and professional while others bubbly and excitable. A natural explorer in her earlier years of service, she has tempered that inner pioneer and scientist with a more graceful command style. Never afraid to get her hands dirty, she finds deliberate acts of leadership more ‘forced’ and prefers to make friends of her subordinates rather than enforce her will on others.

A scientist by trade, Amaya’s interest has always been the study of stellar phenomena and astro-archaeology. Despite her desire to advance down a command path, her heart is generally more driven to advance the Federation’s knowledge of the sciences and peaceful exploration.

Amaya’s passions include reading, singing and dancing. As she loves a good science problem she has been known to spend some of her free time reading up on recent advances and working on her own projects.

Early years Biography

Amaya is the youngest of two sisters, born to a Federation statesman and his wife on Earth. Her father was a key advisor working with the Federation Council on interior affairs while her mother enjoyed the freedom to express herself artistically. They travelled extensively, spending long stints on Bajor and Vulcan among other worlds.

Both Amaya and her older sister Alaina were thrilled by both the travel and the new places they visited, both of them excited at the possibilities of exploration and the freedom it brought. Growing up and joining Starfleet, both of them excelled in different areas, with Alaina taking a more martial path into the security field while Amaya focussed on knowledge and intellectual advancement.

While Amaya was still just a cadet at Starfleet Academy, she learned that her sister had been lost with the USS Amazon while on routine border patrol. The crushing loss of her sister, with whom she was particularly close, almost led to Amaya leaving her Starfleet career behind her, but was eventually convinced to redouble her efforts into becoming an officer that her sister would have been proud of. Determined to overcome any obstacle and any mystery, she would make sure that Alaina’s legacy lived on through her actions and the discoveries she made.

Amaya served first aboard the USS Griffon as an astrometrics scientist, before later transferring to the USS Magellan to become Captain Shan’s Chief Science Officer. The Andorian captain became something of a mentor to Amaya, encouraging and challenging her in equal measure. Her four years working with him was a time she felt gave her an incredible amount of confidence in herself and her abilities, and opened the door for her to one day take the path towards command herself.

Her opportunity came towards the end of the Magellan’s five-year assignment as she was offered the opportunity to serve at Obsidian Command as Executive Officer. Although reluctant to leave her friends and mentor, she realised that this was the time to step out of her captain’s shadow and forge a path on her own.

Some time later, after the retirement of Captain Ovik, Amaya stepped-in to take command of the starbase – her first true opportunity for command with all the challenges it entailed.
