Simms says that they showed up out of the blue, presented orders that all weapons were to be transferred with promises of upgraded models to follow within twenty-four hours. The men all say they were approached individually by various strangers offering something to take the edge off a tense deployment, as if they knew what these guys personal hangups were.
There are two very interesting details in all this.

It’s hard to say. The visitors seemed capable, but they may have asked the crew to do it. Maybe after the crew have been debriefed, we’ll know more.

First, Simms says the orders he was shown were signed by Vice Admiral Yesske. Yesske died three weeks ago in a shuttle accident at Utopia Planitia.

He was haggling with the person giving the drugs, trying to get more than was offered and someone came up to his supplier and told him to hurry up, they needed to get to Lanax.
So the supplier just gave him what he wanted and left quickly.
