The Valakians are advanced where as the Menk are lesser-evolved which led to them being used as basically labor.

The Valakians though advanced were suffering from a genertic condition which was leading to deep population losses. Turns out the Menk’s own genetics were a cure. We also believed the Menk may have been on the verge of an evolutionary leap.
That is the source of the recent hostilities because many in Valakian society aren’t quite ready to treat them as equals or welcome them.
