Growing up on Earth she was teased about her mixed parentage. Not wanting to appear different or ‘alien’, she began wearing coloured contacts to hide her Betazoid eyes. A practice she continues to this day.
Hermia deals with her anger, by working. She doesn’t lash out, instead she calmly and meticulously plan revenge against those who wrong her. The one exception is her father, which she actively lashes out at.

Early years Biography

Hermia Annalise O’Rourke was born into a family with a long tradition of becoming Marines. She broke her father’s heart not only by going into Medicine, but by also joining Starfleet rather than the Marine Corps. As a favour to him she did minor in Battlefield Medicine and completed Marine Basic Training in her final Academy year.

Although she did this grudgingly, it amused her that she was the only member of her graduating class that could field-strip a phaser-rifle blind-folded.

Hermia’s empathic abilities, she inherited from her mother, are both a blessing and a curse in her chosen profession. When treating a single patient she can tell if there is something they are keeping from her. But on a battlefield or in a busy triage she has to try extra hard to block out the emotions.

Hermia’s father taught all his children how to defend themselves when they were still in primary school.
