Neomi is a very by the book person. Because living like that gives structure to her life, something she very much needs. Deep inside she is very insecure, but she will never let anyone notice. She has built a shield around her all these years. Her insecurity is the product of a very dominant mother and a soft father. At the Academy she developed her shield, so no one would be able to rule over her the way her mother did.

Neomi was the only child of Alexana Devos and Jemes Verrill. She was 3 years old when the Civil war with the Ansata began. After the first attempt on her mother’s life she went off world to travel with her father from dig to dig. When the war ended she went back to Rutia. Her childhood wasn’t what you would call nice. Even though she had everything she needed there were not many hugs and kisses from either of her parents. Her father was a Rutian version of a nutty professor who spend more time in books then to her. Her mother was very strict and disciplined with her. She almost had no freedom or was she able to make up her own mind.

At the age of 20 she joined Starfleet. The academy was a way for her to get out from under her mother’s grasp. She graduated in the security/tactical field, even though she didn’t want to go in that direction at first but after a long debate with herself she discovered that it did fit her best.
