Vox exhibits a reserved first impression, but is known as a solid line officer in Starfleet. He’s equally known for his reserved public demeanor and for lasting friendships.

Vox was born near San Diego, California on Earth, to Henry and R’nal Portland in 2359, on Stardate: 36520.5. His mother was a botanist, specializing in rare cultivations for terraforming. His father was a career Starfleet security officer. Being an only child did not deter Vox from normal socializing with other children. In addition to his regular schooling, he learned from a young age to become fluent in the Romulan language from his mother, who fled the Romulan Star Empire as a dissident.

Vox followed his parents from one assignment to the next. Being exposed to lots of other cultures broadened his understanding of the Federation. During his spare time in his teenage years, Vox learned to become proficient in firearms, going to holo-ranges whenever possible. He also grew to like the old Earth sport of baseball, which had started making a comeback. He would watch games with his father on the holodeck, becoming a solid fan of the Cestus Comets team. The Dominion War broke out when Vox was fourteen. Those two years molded him into a mature young man as he watched the Federation struggle to stop the destruction. It was during this timeframe that he decided that he would follow in his father’s footsteps and join Starfleet. While living on Tau Organi, Vox was taught to play billiards while enrolled in high school, going on to achieve recognition in the sector championship competition.
