Welcome aboard the SS Mary Rose, a pastiche of a ship hailing from an era bygone, past checkered and historically dubious. In all rights, she should have been moored in a museum, stripped of her warp core, drained of her chattels and propped onto a pole, a lifeless husk on display. Yet the SS Mary Rose has a tireless manner of slipping through the tight noose of fate, her history managing to have her plucked from her quietude and salvaged by a greedy merchant with an eye for earnings. Dragged from her stationary cradle adrift in the void, The SS Mary Rose is once more venturing the black. Now crewed by an itinerant band, whose motivations are questionable and approach is quite fly-by-night, the Mary Rose has been cast into the role of privateer vessel. Such craft find work only when wandering the outskirts of lawless space; their reputations, actions and mannerisms ensuring they remain unwelcome in the polite society of most UFP worlds.

This simulation is based on the dark side of Star Trek, people living on the very edges of the Federation. We focus on quality writing and not quantity like so many simulations out there allowing the story to grow in our own way, letting characters and our community develop.

Nominations .... Nominations .... Nominations

JAKE FORD – SS MARY ROSE – Nominee Asst GM of the year

  • Paul has truly stepped up this year to be asst gm of SS Mary Rose in what has been a truly interesting year from leading a mission that gave him a new nickname to creating some truly long standing lore that will follow through for many years to come. His characters are insightful and he makes the Rosie Fam a joy IC and OOC. He sets the tone of the community by supporting the GM with planning and background running things, pushing storylines forward as well as keeping the GM in check and on task in a way that truly makes her lucky to have him as a friend. Paul deserves Asst GM 2022 as he has had a remarkable year pushing forward the unique.

REUBEN GREGNOL – SS MARY ROSE – Nominee GM of the year

  • The Mary Rose is a very small family of writers and Becca has a leadership style that values all contributions. She brings that same style to her efforts on the Atlantis, and the fact that she’s able to juggle two sims at all is mind-blowing. Her mission designs are cohesive without being restrictive and she has a general enthusiasm for most shenanigans that creates a very calm and productive creative space. Her slew of characters is used to generate activity across the entire crew and her frequent updates (read: complaining) about the weather ensure that none of us lose touch with reality. The really, really hot; no wait, cold reality. (Perhaps she can use the prize money, (there’s prize money, right?), to finally buy an Oodie!) I have felt very supported and valued under Becca’s watch. She’s a good egg.
  • I don’t think I’ve ever been part of a sim that gives such freedom to write whatever the hell I want as Rosie does. I’m sure I’ll make her blush when I laud Becca’s achievement in keeping her going – we’ve had a really tough year for little dramas, both in-character and out. But Rosie is a place I consistently enjoy writing, with a variety of characters and stories that are just so damn fun to play with. Becca deserves so much recognition for making Rosie such a great environment and sandbox for me to fool around in. She’ll tell you it’s a team effort – but take nothing away from the Boss Lady who steers the ship. “

CURTIS VAAN – SS MARY ROSE – Nominee Character of the year

  • Curtis is a perfect example of taking a stereotype, flipping it on its head and then having the character live out the ramifications of not fitting the mold correctly. As much as Curtis can be seen as comic relief, there are nuances to his portrayal that dip into the loneliness and frustration of isolation and the desire to belong despite not wanting to bow to other people’s expectations. He is exceedingly fun to write with and even more fun to torment. Some of the best dialogue in the Fleet.

BEYA – SS MARY ROSE – Nominee Character of the year

  • Written in a very thoughtful and knowledgeable way, Beya manages to be both indicative of her species whilst not being bound to storytelling that only accentuates the stereotypes. Her attempts to better herself, her desire to learn and grow, whilst still having a healthy attitude towards frivolity and mischief, provide multiple ways to interact with her and she has proven to be a great character for embracing adventure. It is the hallmark of a solid portrayal when a character is distinct enough to be recognisable in all renditions, whilst still delivering ongoing growth and development. I look forward to seeing what she gets up to in the next year!

REUBEN GREGNOL – SS MARY ROSE – Nominee Character of the year

  • It was virtually impossible to narrow down which of Becca’s characters to put forward, so many are worthy, but my nomination goes to her portrayal of Gregnol for the simple fact that she has fashioned two iterations of the man that are both recognisably him whilst being utterly different at the same time. I have especially enjoyed interacting with his Mirror Universe counterpart, he is emerging as a complex and intricate antagonist with sympathetic motivations and I see a lot of scope for the storytelling that will come from his development. Meanwhile, back in the regular universe, Gregnol apparently has the patience of a saint or the awareness of a cabbage. Either way, he is stoic and long-suffering and probably hasn’t jettisoned anyone important into space this week.

Mission 17 - Fractures

Mission 17 – Fractures

During a mission to support the Fenris Rangers in dealing with a pirate base and some very familiar faces and a familiar ship, a device in the grotto goes haywire.

Time starts to break in different parts of the ship – some regressing to earlier points in the ship’s history, others into the future.

Will they be able to complete the mission despite the chaos that has been brought onto the ship?

Hysperia Awards and Achievement

Crew’s Choice Award for Hysperia

Evelyn Reynolds
“The Oliver/Evelyn dynamic has shifted dramatically this mission, and I have to give kudos to Serahni for enabling and driving much of that. I’m excited to see where it leads! She deserves a lot of recognition for helping juggle a lot of little arcs this run around, and I’m personally grateful for the added creativity.”

Leiddem Kea
“The award is for Becca, of course, and her legion of delectable characters but Leiddem is my boy and I have thoroughly enjoyed every post written with him this mission. (I have, of course, enjoyed all the posts written with Becca. There have been many.) To the lady that keeps us going, somehow, and puts up with our shenanigans. You deserve more than an award. Possibly a stiff drink.”

Oliver Lucas
I’m nominating Paul specifically for his portrayal of Oliver during this mission. It’s been highly enjoyable to see the character emerge from Sickbay and start to show facets of his experience and trauma. Paul always paces his exposition well so I feel like this is just the tip of the iceberg and I look forward to learning more about this character in future missions.

Non-Player Character Award

Rueben Gregnol
“I may be bias because I have claimed all of them. (Nearly.) Always much love and admiration for Becca’s imaginative breadth and willingness to occupy multiple headspaces at once. Never a dull moment, always something to write, always new adventures to plot.”

Delaney O’Callaghan

“Okay, the character is Tomas, but the writer’s PC is Delaney. Tomas was fantastic – perfect for the world and sprung near fully formed right from the start.”

Library Excellence Ribbon

Liha t’Ehhelih
“Beya was Queen, Burnie rode a dragon AND got accidentally married, and Liha didn’t kill Curtis. I always enjoy reading Cam’s characterisations and was particularly fond of her characters’ interactions with a certain kissing-booth proprietor this mission. (Plus, we got arrested together. I think they’ve probably forgotten about that.) Strong, well-rounded characters with distinctive voices, Cam’s writing always leaps off the screen. Good stuff.”
