Chapter 4 - Two Ferengi (Uss Tanjura)

Featuring ...

Loags, the larger of the pair of unexceptionally dressed Ferengi, looked at their sibling Logas as the Federation crew moved throughout the bar.  “I never thought the Federation would make it this far,” Loags said quietly.

“This may be our best chance,” said Logas toying with their drink.

“Yes, we need to escape from Qualik before he traps us in debt bondage as he has so many others,” said Loags, their face grim.

“But how do we get aboard?  They will not trust the word of a Ferengi.”

“And with good reason,” Loags.  “Perhaps a delivery?  That has gotten us aboard more than one ship.”

“But what would a Federation ship need?” asked Logas.  “We could have asked the woman but she has left with those two scoundrels.  We had best let Station Security know, Qualik will not want the new sheep to be fleeced to get hurt . . . not this early anyway.”

“I will go,” said Loags, as they got up and moved over to the bartender.  They had a few words and the bartender picked up his interstation com and started talking to someone.

Loags set back down.  “Very concerned about their latinum not as much about the Starfleet officer.”

Logas nodded.  “As a good Ferengi should be and the effect is the same for our purpose.  We would not want the Starfleet ship to lock itself up tight.”

Loags looked around to see if there were more Federation crew about.

“I have been looking,” Logas tapped a datapad, “the Tanjura is not listed in our registry of Starfleet vessels.  Its design design is not even listed thought it may be an Inquiry-type, those were up for approval in the list we have.”

“It must be very new then, that registry is at least three years out of date when it comes to Starfleet ships.”

“I wish we could get access to Qualik’s files, I bet he has more information on the ship and its Captain,” said Logas finishing their drink.

“Agreed, that would be good to know,” said Loags.  “But any Federation ship should have what we need, new or old.”

“True but I hate not knowing more.  We could pay for the information but our latinum reserve is running low.”

“Too low and I do not want to take a job when we such a latinum opportunity in front of us.”

“Agreed,” said Logas.  “Let us split up, watch the Federation crew and see if we can learn anything.  Maybe we will have a chance to befriend one or act as a guide.”

“It seems like our best chance to move towards our goal but be careful, their will be many others trying to get a piece of the latinum jackpot the Federationers represent,”  said Loags.

“When have I not been careful?”

“I know, I know, but you know the saying . . .”

“Yes. ‘The issue’s not whether you’re paranoid, the issue is whether you’re paranoid enough,’” nodded Logas standing.  “Be watchful as well.”

“I will, we will meet back here in . . . five hours?”

“Agreed.”
