Chapter 1 - Seeking Answers

Patricia stepped off the turbolift and onto the bridge.  She looked at no one, and no one said a word to her as she made a beeline for the Ready Room.  Henry was at his desk when he heard her enter.  “Good morning.”

“So I went down to my office this morning as usual.”

“Uh huh.”

“And when I get there, all my stuff is gone.”

“Uh huh.”

“And when I asked where it went, I was told to come see you.”

“Uh huh.”

“I swear to God, if you say that one more time…”

He looked up and motioned for her to sit.  “Your stuff had been moved to a new office.  You’ll be housed on Deck Two.  I had Engineering working all night on retrofitting it for your needs.  It’s about ten seconds from the holodecks so you can go right from work to your training.”

“Why couldn’t I stay in the Intel offices?”

“Because you’re no longer an Intelligence Officer.”

“WHAT?!”

He held up a hand and waited for her to simmer.  “Vox can handle all of that.  I’ve reassigned you to a new position, Mission Advisor.”

“And what is that?”

“Just what it sounds like.  You’re going to be in the loop on Command decisions and you’ll have input incase you can see or think of something we’ve missed.  I don’t need you just collecting the intel, I need you putting the pieces together.”

“That’s,,,,acceptable.  So I get my own private office?”

“Yes, and I told them to leave the sleeping quarters and bathroom, etcetera alone incase you’re pulling all nighters and want to sleep there as well.”

“Why didn’t you tell me about this idea?”

“Surprise?”  He said with a dry smirk.

“Alright, so I guess…thank you.”

“For what?”

“Trust.”

“If we don’t trust you by now then you really are in trouble.”

She stood and exited the room.  The mood on the bridge was considerably less tense with her attitude changed.  Henry returned to his work.  The Zoanians were being diplomatic….professional code for horse’s ass…in sharing what they knew about Caressa’s movements and interactions during the conference.  One way or another he’d get the answers they needed.
