Neela is a hard nosed scientist who has let her career take a front seat in her life over everything else. While, she has kept in contact with her family members and tried relationships during her career they have not taken precedence. She graduated with honors at the Academy, but quickly discovered that not every field in science is a strong suit and has accepted that. Her quick promotion from Commander to Captain made for a difficult adjustment period. But, she has moved passed that and is just as passionate about her work and helping others as she was prior to the Dominion War.

Neela Izal was born in 2346 as the third daughter and fourth child of Tiami and Batul Izal. Her father served as a Starfleet Captain and eventually a Federation Ambassador when she was ten years old following his retirement from service. She had an interest in the sciences primarily micro-biology and physiology. And, in 2364 she was able to finally pursue that interest by following the footsteps of her father.

She left for Starfleet Academy in 2364 in order to pursue the field of biology and physiology and graduated with honors in 2368. In 2368 Neela was given her commission at the rank of Ensign. And, Neela Izal was officially assigned as a Biologist aboard the USS Dallas.

Her assignment aboard the USS Dallas was where she met Tyler Roberts. The pair hit it off almost immediately, but her nature to put her work before the relationship led to a great deal of strain. Eventually, that relationship fell apart after only a few months and she began a relationship with Tagor a Vulcan. Again her work was placed before the relationship and, while Tagor found that to be a logical course of action eventually their differences led that one to fall apart as well.

Following her relationship with Tagor she had given up on all hopes of pursuing another determined that her career choices and personal relationships simply did not work. In 2369 after making six different discoveries and a great deal of research into new lifeforms she was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. She remained aboard the USS Dallas for another two years before transferring to the USS Pantok and filling the role as Assistant Chief Science Officer.

While, on board the Pantok she branched out her scientific knowledge base. Her main focus remained in the fields she had studied in during her time at the Academy, but she wanted to know as much as possible. Neela discovered that she had weaknesses in physics and quantum theory, but that did not deter her instead it made her work that much harder. In 2373 she was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned as the Chief Science Officer.

The Dominion War begun later in that year and the Pantok was assigned to serve as a border patrol vessel along the front. The ship and Lieutenant Neela Izal saw combat actions on four separate occasions. She received several medals for valor and took command of the ship during one action when the command team were wounded gravely.

In 2377 she was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander and reassigned to the position of Executive Officer. The ship began running patrol routes near the Romulan border while completing a few survey missions inside of the Romulan Neutral Zone before it was reenacted. Neela Izal was promoted to Commander in 2385 and reassigned to Outpost Tecumseh as the station Commanding Officer.

She remained on board the station until 2388 when she was promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned to fill the position of Commanding Officer aboard the USS Onnar. The ship was preparing to depart for a deep space assignment to the galactic south. In 2389 however the ship was reassigned temporarily to the Gorn Front. Neela Izal was also made a Task Group Commander within the ship’s assigned Task Force.

Later in the year of 2389 the USS Onnar was reassigned to an exploration initiative in the Gamma Quadrant. Under Neela’s command the vessel was exploring a region of space that had never actually been explored before. They would make contact with one pre-warp society when several of the children from the ship were kidnapped. A rescue mission was deployed and the Onnar crew was able to save the children. Shortly after that, while investigating the mysterious Celestians, the ship was knocked back into the Alpha Quadrant.

Late in the year 2389 all of the Onnar crew were reassigned to different posts with many of them being reassigned to Vidal Fleet Yards. Captain Neela Izal was temporarily made a Commodore when she was reassigned as Commanding Officer and returned to the rank of Captain in 2390. Currently she commands the station and has completed one mission aboard the USS Haeva. In early 2390 she officially adopted Adriana O’Malley as her eldest daughter with her own biological daughter being born late in the previous year.
