Task Force 72 Report | September – November

Consider this a quarter in review! It’s been a hot minute since we had a Task Force 72 report! That is exclusively my fault, I have been particularly busy these last few months and been slipping on the back end of things! I would promise a change, but there is a good chance my December report will come from Paul – that is Captain Kane. Though more on that in a bit.

First of all, let’s start with September!

Wow.

I think there is no better way to start a report than that. When it comes to months, September was one of the most active I have seen in Task Force 72 since I returned to Obsidian Fleet. Many of our sims had a stellar month, with over 453 standard posts written. That is 226,500 words. A novel on average has between 70,000 to 120,000 words, so congratulations on your two books 72. Even more impressive, is that one of those novels was entirely written by two of our sims, but I am getting ahead of myself.

Now what about October?

October came and went, which means the leaves have changed, there is a spooky air about, and Canadians celebrated their significantly cooler Thanksgiving. It’s about pirates! I have no doubt as we all settle into our comfortable chairs, and get ready for the cooler months of winter (in the Northern Hemisphere anyways) we will see more outstanding posts and writing numbers.

November was a slower month for man, somber as it is for some, and a cause for celebration for others. For 72 is was a bit on the slower side, but all in all was a great month. Happy to see the consistency of it all leveling off (for the better), and loving the work I am seeing from everyone. I am sure December is shaping up to be a great month.

Arrivals, Changes and Departures

We have a new CO joining us! Legacy, who will be playing Lieutenant Commander Ghant Xerix has joined us! He is in training currently to be a commanding officer, and will likely be taking command of the first Reliant-class starship in Obsidian Fleet. While undergoing training over at http://roguegaming.net/taskforce72/ he’ll be needing to build his crew. If you are interested in joining a fresh crew with a new CO for us, then reach out to him!

Unit of Merit

[September]

When it comes to Task Force 72, I so rarely will discuss numbers as the primary deciding factor when it comes to a sim being eligible for this reward. The quality of the sim, the writing, and the camaraderie present from the crew evident in their writing. Number play a bit part, for sure, but it is rather hard to push them as a driving factor.

And yet.

In September we saw two sims duke it out for the top position, with a clear winner. Both sims have a quality of writer hard to match. Both sims are Captained by members of the Fleet who are renown for their qualiy writing and amazing crews. Both are cheered about the Fleet as people who you can go to for advice. But, with 141 posts, and some of the damn finest writing I have seen in a while – the clear winner of September’s Unit of Merit was the Gladiator. Her crew and Captain should be proud! and while it has been a hot minute since the days they were written, when you see them around the fleet, give them a pat on the back.

Conclusion

As I mentioned, there is a fair chance that December’s report will be coming from Paul. Between December 23rd and January 6th I am going to be a bit of a slow contact, in between a few things – but most importantly of all my wife and I are expecting. So should I disappear in that time, I am not intentionally ignoring you, I promise. If I am unavailable (and I’ll make my self as such) reach out to Paul, or Other Paul (Hawkins) or Jill (Lalor) should you need support. My amazing friends in the command side are just as skilled, if not more so, and will be able to assist.

Have an amazing rest of your December everyone, and I’ll see you in the new year.

Should you have questions or concerns, you may reach me via email at [email protected], or should you need Captain Kane, he can be reached via [email protected]. Thank you all, and safe simming.
