Chapter 3 - Back to the Lohalian Subsector (USS Tanjura)

Njessa sat in the Captain’s Chair. “All crew and department, prepare for departure from Esquimalt Station.”

“Medical ready,” Gable responded, halfway by rote. It wasn’t as though there was much to prep – just run the program to put the holograms into departure mode.  She folded her arms, standing braced for the imminent movement at the back of the bridge. There were some advantages though, she thought as she folded her arms, standing braced for the imminent movement at the back of the bridge; the view up here was real nice.

“Tactical ready,” added Miala with similar simplicity after her inquiries into the security of all exterior ingress/egress points and the disembarkment of Esquimalt personnel and vehicles lent to Tanjura returned affirmative. She and her department spent the layover composing operational frameworks around which to tweak the ship’s automation protocols pertaining to security, and it paid dividends in executing their extensive responsibilities for facilitating departure.

“Security ready,” Ensign Alcraen added in, he has been resting for nearly three months without any combat or missions, on this time, he was already prepared with a phaser in his holster, as was his team in case of anything that comes in their way.

Miala looked at Doctor Gable.

“Nice to see you up here,” Miala offered, having drawn a blank on the last time she’d even seen the CMO on the bridge.

“Nice to be able to watch from the good seats,” Gable replied with a quick smile.

“Operations report all systems green,” Storrok reported still trying to work out what each blinking light in front of him represents.

Njessa looked to the helmsman, Ensign Soola, a native of Angel I, who seemed competent but young. But with Lieutenant Vashan plucked away by Starfleet, she would have to do. “Initiate departure protocols, Ensign.”

“Yes, ma’am,” Soola replied smartly as she ran through preflight checks.

“Esquimalt control gives us permission to depart, Captain,” said Ensign Bowi from the communication station.

“Then let us be on our way. Let us fly, Ensign,” Njessa said.

“Yes, ma’am.” said Soola. “Full impulse power in three, two, one.” The ship accelerated away from the station.

“Operations, I want interlaced wide scans as soon as we cross into the Lohalian Subsector,” Njessa said. “I have a feeling that we will not be the only people interested in this site.”

“Yes Si… Ma’am.” Storrok replied while tapping away at the console to get the scan functionality just a tap away.

Njessa smiled. “It is good to be on our way again.”

“Warp in ninety seconds, Captain, once we are clear of the station’s restricted zone,” said Soola.

“Warp six should get us there at a good clip,” said Njessa.

“Yes, ma’am,” said Soola, inputting the commands.
