For generations, Star Trek has invited us to imagine what waits beyond the next star. Strange new worlds, first contact with unfamiliar civilizations, tense diplomatic encounters, impossible scientific mysteries, and crews brought together by a shared mission.
Here at Obsidian Fleet, those stories continue through collaborative writing.
This is the home of our Star Trek roleplaying games, bringing together writers from across the community to create their own ships, stations, crews, and adventures. Some games follow the familiar history of the Prime Timeline, while others explore alternate realities, original timelines, or entirely new corners of the Star Trek universe.
Each game is different. One crew may be pushing beyond the edge of known space, while another navigates political tensions closer to home. Players might find themselves aboard a Federation starship, serving on a remote station, working alongside alien allies, or facing threats that challenge everything their characters believe in.
What connects these games is the chance to tell a story together.
Players create their own characters and work alongside Game Managers and fellow writers to build missions one scene at a time. Stories can be adventurous, dramatic, funny, personal, or occasionally a little strange. Much like Star Trek itself, the best moments often come from the people serving together and the choices they make along the way.
Our games are played in several different formats, allowing writers to find a style that suits them.
Many games use web-based platforms such as IFS3 or Nova, where players collaborate on posts and build ongoing mission stories. Others take place through Discord, email, or recorded podcast sessions. Some are quick and conversational, while others give players more time to develop longer scenes and detailed character moments.
Whether you prefer Play-by-Web through IFS3 or Nova, Play-by-Discord, Play-by-Email, or Play-by-Podcast, there is more than one way to take your place among the crew.
You do not need to know every episode, memorize every starship class, or have years of roleplaying experience behind you. What matters most is a willingness to write with others, contribute to the story, and help create a game everyone can enjoy.
Take a look through our Star Trek roleplaying games and see where your next story might begin. There are ships waiting for crews, stations searching for new officers, and countless worlds still waiting to be explored.
