Another report from JFC what madness is this?

Obsidian Day 2020

Saturday 1st August will see the return of our annual celebration of the founding of Obsidian Fleet. Please save the date and stock up on drink of choice and snacks to enjoy the event. Lots of panels are in the process of being organised with all the panels taken. We look forward to seeing you there.

Fleet Changes

We have had many conversations over the last six months or so on posts, posting standards, stats the list could go on as both Fleet Council and with Commanding Officers. Either we measure by single or author using Nova’s stats functions. There is no unity and half the time we do not know what measure each ship is using as people use different ones.

Going forward the Fleet Council has voted that we will be measuring by words. There are many reasons for moving to this but the biggest one is simple – some ships do massive posts of five thousand – seven thousand words but they keep it together, others produce smaller, more succinct posts. It seems unfair as some Commanding Officers have unique styles and that work should be recognised as they have spent weeks and weeks crafting something that they only have one post.

To make it easier we have created a mod that will count the words for you that all Commanding Officers have access to, to make the little bit of maths easier. It will work out the word count and ratio of posts. It is optional to use the mod if you favour wanting to copy and paste to a word document and do it that way, but the numbers now must be added to ship reports.

We have also made some changes to Command Academy to address a few issues, but the Academy Director will discuss those in further detail next month.

Site Updates

Work continues apace for Obsidian Day, du Lac’s off testing some fixes to some of the issues we’re experiencing with IFS2 – WordPress has gone through some pretty significant changes in the three years since we launched IFS2 and the technology behind IFS2’s not kept pace so we’ve got a bit of a hodge-podge of different views and controllers which we need to work through and rebuild

And Finally…

As you can see, the three of us have more effectively split the workload within the JFC. This allows the three of us to prevent spreading ourselves too thin between the administrative side of things and just having a good time as simmers unless you’re du Lac, in which case simming is replaced by being uniquely him.

We encourage everyone not to lose sight of the fun, just for the sake of doing a bit of everything unless you’re DuLac, where the fun is us figuring out what personality he’s going to have today (I’m like the Wheel of Misfortune in the form of a simmer – du Lac).

See you all at Obsidian Day!
