Hi everyone
In a slight adjustment to our usual programming, we have decided to combine all the various ‘fleet news reports’ into one monthly digest curated by your friendly neighbourhood Comms person (me). Hopefully this way you can get all the updates and info about all things Obsidian Fleet in one place!
This month the wonderful Lore Mistress herself Cam has been prompting us to share our favourite JPs on the subjects of Pirates, Dancing, and Cooking! Check out the #positive-zone channel in the OF discord if you want to read some of our faves. And while you’re there – maybe share some of your own!
News from around the Taskforces
Starbase Esquimalt is now live and available for all your needs! Want to write something that’s not on your ship/colony? Perhaps you feel like trying out the reins of commanding a starship yourself? Or even have a chance encounter with an Admiral or two? It’s completely open to anything you’d like to try out – just pop into the #Esquimalt channel in the OF Discord and let us know, ask for help, or see if others want to join you. Right now we’re about to launch a “Technology Exposition, 2398“ idea for any interested writers to cameo in, regardless of where you are in the fleet.
Congratulations go to the USS Athena and crew this month – celebrating it’s five year anniversary at the end of August!
Monthly Game Spotlight: SS Mary Rose
The SS Mary Rose is one of the community’s longest running games, hitting nine years on New Years Eve! It is currently exploring a mission where they are attempting a supply pick-up from a Fenris Rangers cache on a remote planet, but discover a crashed Orion slaver ship on the surface containing a number of slaves captured from pre-warp worlds, making the mission a lot more complicated…
Our Spotlight Post from the current mission features two of the stranded pre-warp former slaves contemplating their new situation: https://ssmaryrose.co.uk/index.php/sim/viewpost/1648
Fleetcast
This month Ehestri was joined by the amazing Jupiter Station podcast for a discussion on how DS9 redefined storytelling in Star Trek. Check out that short – and the full conversation over on our Youtube channel.
A big shout out to our resident Emu and his super special guest for the fun time we had on this month’s “Let’s Write!” session, where they discussed the overlaps between writing collaboratively and the techniques used in Improv. It’s worth a watch!
Database Updates
The OF Content Team, under the guidance of Cam and David, with some technical wizardry from Dulac, have been working on a huge update to the tech and lore databases, making sure they’re up to spec and modernised. We’re not quite ready to share with you yet, but keep your eyes peeled for these in the next month or two!
