GM of the Year Nominees

Jill/ Commodore Lalor – USS Elysium

I feel that, with all of her recent RL issues, she has been a strong leader of her sim, USS Elysium. I would be very happy to continue following her lead.
—

Jill has done an amazing job running the Elysium the past several years, making a hard job of a simm CO seem easy. She makes everyone feel included and heard while keeping interest up with well written missions.
—

2025 has been a very rough year for many people, myself included. Through my various family emergencies, leading up to the passing of my Mother-in-law, and then being let go from my job (and so much more…), I can’t think of another CO in Obsidian Fleet who has been more supportive, respectful of space and time needed to attend RL issues, and patience in allowing a planned mission that I had not only be bumped twice, but allowed to slow when RL hit again. And this was all on top of her own RL stressful events! I have known Jill, aka Commodore Phoenix Lalor-Richardson for many years now, and can say that she is, by far, my closest friend in this wonderful sandbox that we all enjoy playing in. I would follow her lead ’round Ceti Alpha V and beyond, even if her Sim was just a small runabout. She has always put her crew first, ensuring they had the support they needed to keep being creative parts of her Sim. Now that she is higher up the Obsidian food chain, I can only be sure that the entire group will become a much better site for Star Trek fans world wide.

Evan/ Captain Yearling – USS Hiroshima

Colm has overseen the revival of the USS Hiroshima in 2025. While so much of Hiro’s new blossoming activity is the contribution of the crew, a team effort by definition includes its Captain. And I think the Hiroshima would hoist him up on our shoulders for his years of dedication and for his part in steering us into our latest epoch. During our hardest season leading up to 2025, Colm pep talked us into staying with it. He heard the crew’s concerns about the management of the game and the story and chose to implement needed changes and direction, and he also this past year wrote his own major character development for Yearling to accommodate this new chapter. The commitment of the Hiroshima’s crew reflects Colm’s own commitment. Cheers to Colm!

Matthew Davis – To Boldly Roll

At the end of 2024, Matt intuited that maybe after over a hundred voice sessions of Star Trek, his TTRPG players would be interested in turning a fresh page. So he kept our core gang together and recruited a couple new players (he only finds the best people! All perfect 20’s: hits and no misses!) and lead us through the nearest Stargate as Phoenix Team 6 for the year 2025. Matt is a good friend with his players. He’s also a geek (shocking, I know) who obsesses over the coolest things: building worlds and stories full of tech and npcs and histories for the team to walk through, and (most importantly) supplies us interesting npcs to make friends with, bad guys to shoot at, cool weapons to shoot with, alien dire wolves to adopt, and minor gods to punch in the face… Thanks to Matt’s leadership we look forward to lots more laughs together, gasps of surprise, and exasperated GM sighs into the mic.

aGM of the Year Nominees

Nikki/ Naomi Mercer – To Boldly Roll

Although Nikki isn’t my official AGM she has remained as a player and still does many things that make my life so much less stressful! with the change in game from Star Trek to Stargate our website is undergoing a massive overhaul, she controls the recording bot and is the other Admin on our discord. As a player she has jumped into the new game, role and system with enthusiasm. She has welcomed every new player have and helps get them settled. Nikki has always been a source of strength for me, we chat often and she helps me gage how crazy my story ideas are, gives me feed back on the story and helps me to make sure all players get equal time with their own crazy shenanigans. Its hard to pin down everything she does in and out of game, but she pushes me to be the best GM I can be.

Keiran/ Commander N’Garzi Zora – USS Athena

Kieran continues to be the best right hand a guy could ask for. Open, honest, available. Writes with anyone and everyone. Keeps me accountable while not being a dick about it. ;) We’ve worked together for so long now that it can be easy to take that for granted but I always see these awards as an opportunity to shout out a steady hand and someone who doesn’t always get the plaudits for a thankless job. I couldn’t do it without him.

Jeff/ Captain Gary Taylor – USS Elysium

2025 was a shit year for the CO of the USS Elysium, and two of her command team stood up. Jeff was one of these, keeping the crew informed and posting with players to keep them active. As the XO of the Elysium he was visible and active in his posts and has taken on the role of ‘new player guide’ easily. In this new side role, he links up with new players, invites them into posts and gives them the run down on the current situation of the game. He is their first point of contact and with the chief counselor helps them settle into the game without hassle.

Bill/ Commander Kyle Reece – USS Elysium

2025 was a shit year for the CO of the USS Elysium, and two of her command team stood up. Bill was one of these. While he is not the Executive Officer, he is a member of the Command Team I have formed and has taken on a bigger role this year. He helps calculate the points from crew nominated awards and these points go towards promotions etc. His help with this while I have been battling Cancer has been a great relief. He has also been a touch point for players in missions and has at the end of 2025 started his own mission which In Character is causing a lot of… fun! I am pleased to make this nomination for Assistant Game Master of the Year to Bill.

Player of the Year Nominees

Alex/ Teevs Dosivi – USS Elysium

Teevs is an amazing writer, having developed his character, a new species thoroughly with a well thought out government, traditions. Each post brings his character to life and are a joy to read.

Cassie/ Lt Commander Rin – USS Elysium

Cassie has been a stalwart player of the USS Elysium and is their chief of Intelligence. She has worked hard to bring new players into plots and works with the Command team to make sure everyone is included. She also plays a x-borg with all the foibles and growth that this character has undergone. Rin is a wonderful officer who does not hesitate to speak truth to power which her command team appreciated, even when it is them being told to grow up or fix things. When Cassie joined us, we were ecstatic and so glad she had done and has stuck around for so long. She has been awarded the Ships Crew Choice Award many times deservedly.

Will/ Dylan Core – To Boldly Roll

Will has been with TBR since the start. He has always turned up, ready to play and ready to dive into the role play aspect, creating voices and personality for his characters. While his time outside the game is very limited he always give TBR the attention he can. I think Will has been one of the strongest players I have GMed, ever. I enjoy his game play and the backgrounds he creates and he has thrown himself into the Stargate game as fully as he had with Star Trek!

Sharon/ Emily Dodger – To Boldly Roll

Sharon is brand new to any kind of RPG. Yet she has quickly picked up the basics of the system and is learning how to use her character. She is a pleasure to GM for and I look forward to what she does with Emily (her character) in the future. We quickly discovered that she like shooting things (in character) a murder hobo if i ever saw one, but she quickly developed her character and has increased the range of her skill, even being able to bring her real world knowledge into the game at times and in a manner which doesn’t break the ‘4th wall’. Being a Stargate Nut had the potential of metagaming, but she had held back where she could have broken the story and has used her knowledge of the shows to help me explain a situation or describe a location. She is also quickly learning to ‘speak Matthew’ which helps a lot. For a new player, she is doing exceptionally well!

David/ Lt Commander Maurice Rubens & Porter J. Wallace – Obsidian Command

David has been part of the OC community for the past three years, joining the game not only as a stellar writer but a community collaborator whose ideas, brainstorming sessions, tags, and posts elevate every other player writing with him and push them to do just a little bit better than their last tag. He does this not only with the ‘main’ character he joined the simm with but with his PNPC’s with whom he’s written a rich history, weaving his story in and around the main plot of the game in a way that complements and enhances but never takes away from the story at large. There is no game in the Fleet that wouldn’t benefit greatly by having David counted as one of their players, and I’m really happy that he’s chosen Obsidian Command as his home. His invaluable input elevates the game, elevates his fellow players and is invaluable to the ongoing success of OC. That’s why I believe he’s the best choice for Player of the Year.

Dee/ Lt Commander Adrianna Darney – USS Hiroshima

In a tour de force of writing, Dee was the driver behind much of what was great about the Hiroshima in 2025. She contributed meaningfully to every element of the plot, she involved everyone she could and she brought insight and energy to everything she worked on. Playing a doctor is usually a tough gig, but not for Dee. Dee’s played our CMO for a long time now and, somehow, she keeps getting better at it. Moreover, there hasn’t been a plot or subplot she hasn’t been involved in this year. The sheer imagination of her writing was pivotal in bringing to a close a decade-long arc, setting in motion a 20- or 30-part JP involving the entire crew. Her use of medical terminology in the subsequent surgical posts demonstrated a mastery of free-flowing technical storytelling that is rare in a player. She then went a step further by delving into how her PC and NPC characters dealt with the situation’s aftermath differently – one trying to negotiate with and help an attempted murderer, the other sinking deeper into PTSD. Dee writes with art and thought. She weaves other people’s stories together effortlessly, supporting them in seeing their stories through and then running in entirely unexpected directions with the ideas they’ve come up with, breathing life into the sim. She’s a pleasure to have on the Hiroshima. It’s with my utmost gratitude to her that I nominate her for Obsidian Fleet’s Player of the Year.

Serahni / Lieutenant Alexis Ryan – USS Athena/ Cameron Johnston – X-men: Avalon

Serahni is one of those troublemakers. You know the type; constantly asking questions, bugging for clarity, suggesting ideas, working out connections. I use the word troublemaker jokingly in this nomination, but I wanted to put something here that goes beyond just being a great writer – she’s a fantastic collaborator and sounding board too. OF’s Player of the Year should be a top-class collaborative writer, and Serahni is absolutely that. We’ve plotted out character stories years in advance. We’ve buffed out the holes in a plot. We’ve bemoaned how a story could’ve gone better and vowed to improve it next time. Writers like her are the reason I enjoy this hobby, and I almost wish I had a half-dozen more of her. But that would be terrifying and apocalyptic, so I’ll settle for just the one.
