It’s August. I don’t like this. The year is getting away from me. And it’s only two weeks until my Sister’s Birthday and I haven’t got her a card!
One half of that last sentence is a lie. Can you guess which one?
So, this month has been another pretty calm one. Which is good. In my opinion, the more I have to say here, the worse I’m doing my job. My hope is that by this time next year my report will read;
“This is the July report. Nothing happened.”
When I can write that, I know there’s no more room for improvement and then I can get back to plotting to steal a certain someone’s job.
What, who said that?
I am, of course, kidding. The other way I gauge the success of my job is how many puns I can fit in here. So, without further ado, and with no more puns for a little while, here’s the summary for this month:
Total Number of Ships: 23
Number of Ships with CO’s: 13
Number of Active Sims: 12
Number of Open Commands: 10
USS Constitution (Constitution Class (AU))
USS Intrepid (Constitution Class (AU))
USS Juno (Vesta Class)
USS Hercules (Prometheus Class)
USS Resolute (Defiant Class)
USS Cross (Insignia Class)
USS Livingstone (Nebula Class)
USS Camelot (Excalibur Class)
USS Harbinger (Luna Class)
Starbase 80 (Celestial Class Starbase)
I don’t like adding numbers to that section. It’s not fun. And it gives me things to write about! However, in this case, it’s short and sweet; Commander Anderson of the Juno departed and Harbinger had to be shut down due to CO Academy rules.
Unfortunate, but we wish them all the best in the future. If you wish to enquire about a Command, please, head over here or, if you’re interested in Command of another class of ship, message me and we’ll see what we can do to accommodate you.
I’d also like to say, if you’re in doubt about whether an application will be approved or not, email me at tf47ATobsidianfleetDOTnet and we can workshop the application to a workable level. I’m always happy to do that with prospective CO’s, or to even discuss what would be involved with going for a Command.
Now, this month, we had Obsidian Day. During that, I had the privilege of being one of the hosts of the Captain’s Table, a panel of various CO’s in the fleet. It was honestly just an idea I came up with to help drum up interest in what we as CO’s do, and in potential CO’s amongst you, the players of the fleet. Whether this was successful, I don’t know. What I do know is, in terms of interaction, it was a runaway success and I’m really happy with how it turned out. If anyone wishes to review this panel and the discussions involved, I have a complete transcript and would be more than happy to share it with anyone who wants it. Please note, due to formatting, not all graphics carried over successfully.
Now for the part you all want to hear. The awards.
This month, the awards were a simple process to decide. There’s also a couple of honourable mentions after the awards themselves.
Silver: USS Valkyrie: “It appears that the crew of the Valkyrie has recommitted themselves to the task of story-telling. Having read their recent posts, I am convinced that there is a real desire to engage with exciting material and display the true excitement we find as members of not only OF, but the Star Trek universe as a whole.” (Captain Brett Watson, TGCO, TG47-B)
Gold: USS Pioneer: “It was a tough decision this month, all the sims in the TG have done extremely well this month. However, I am putting the USS Pioneer in for UoM this month. The Pioneer reached an incredible 103 posts this month, reaching that in just the last 7 days of the month from about 70. That was a great showing by the Pioneer crew, and each post was quality to go with the quantity. Well done!” (Commander John Barstow, TGCO, TG47-A)
I’d like to add my honourable mentions for this month. Once again, Captain Nn’Khiy Marcus and her crew on the Archimedes exceded 100 posts, this month hitting a startling 11 posts per player! While they have not been submitted for this month’s UoM due to having won gold last month, I would like to applaud them for this feat. Keep it up guys!
My second honourable mention isn’t for the sims, but rather a crew member. Commander John Barstow, TGCO of 47-A and CO of the Merlin, was this year’s Golden Padd winner with his story Starfleet Marines. That and the other stories can be found here, and I would like to offer my hearty congratulations to both Barstow and his fellow entries. As one of the judges, I can wholeheartedly say I enjoyed reading them all and suggest that you do the same.
That’s about it for this month. Well done to everyone, as ever I am very proud of all of you and wish you all the best boldly going where no man has gone before into August 2018! If anyone needs me, I’ll be off playing the TNG expansion for Star Trek Bridge Crew!
